Wanting to leave Islam for Christianity

Question:

I have a friend who has fallen into bad influence and someone has put into her mind that Islam is Wrong and Christianity is right! I have tried many times to talk to her about this and get her back to Islam but was not successful. Is there any good solution to get the thing out of her head?

Answer:

Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions. Since Islam does not oblige anyone to join it as Allah Says (interpretation of meaning): {There is no compulsion in religion. …} [2: 256] it similarly does not accept that a person who has joined it without compulsion quits it. Indeed the retributive punishment of such a person is a capital one unless he/she returns to Islam which he chose in the first place. The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) said: "Whoever changes his religion, kill him" [Reported by Imam al-Bukhari ]. This punishment can be done only by the Muslim ruler. The apostate is killed in Islam because apostasy is an obnoxious temptation for Muslims as far as their religion is concerned. This is because religion, otherwise, would be unconfining whoever wants to join it does so and whoever wants to leave it does so. This opens the door wide for the detractors, the opportunists and the hypocrites to abuse religion and its rulings. In the Hereafter the punishment of the apostate is very severe. Because of the danger of apostasy and of the depravation and corruption it leads to, Allah Says (interpretation of meaning): {Verily, those who disbelieve, and hinder (men) from the Path of Allâh (i.e. Islâm); then die while they are disbelievers, Allâh will not forgive them.}[47: 34]. So, we advise the questioner to warn her friend against apostasy. As for the claims that Islam is not the right religion or that it contains wrong beliefs, this is completely false and unfounded. In fact, Islam is the only true religion. There is no doubt about this fact. For more information about this tell your friend to read the following Fatawa: 85307 and 81979. We advise the dear questioner to take her friend to Islamic centers available in the area. She will probably find some good knowledgeable Muslims who can discuss all issues with her and convince her of the right path and we hope Allah will make her return to the truth. On the other hand, we advise the dear sister (the questioner) to stay away from this friend if she finds that this girl has chosen apostasy and is not ready to come back to the truth.                 Allah knows best.
