Question:

What has the Fatwa center to say about a man (double-faced) who has two faces and behaves with the others people naturally?

Answer:

Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions. The "double-faced" person acts like a hypocrite whom Allah describes in the following verse: {And when they meet those who believe, they say: "We believe," but when they are alone with their ShayĆ¢tin (devils - polytheists, hypocrites, etc.), they say: "Truly, we are with you; verily, we were but mocking."}[2: 14]. Al-Bukhari and Muslim reported that the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) said: "The worst person is the double-faced one who meets these people with a face and meets others with a different one" . As for how to deal with such a person, we advise you to exhort him and remind him of Allah, the Day of Judgement, and the punishment Allah Will inflict on hypocrites, and what Allah and His Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) say about people who behave as such. We advise you also to beware of him and be cautious when talking in his presence, as such people most of the times are talebearers. They report everything they hear. We ask Allah to protect us and bestow peace on us. However, it is of great importance that one makes sure that such a person is undoubtedly of such a character because mere doubts or misunderstandings should be neglected. Allah knows best.
