Question:

Is the man allowed to make love with his wife during Umrah or Hajj?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

It is unlawful for the person performing Hajj or ‘Umrah to have sexual intercourse or indulge in any of its prerequisites like touching with pleasure, kissing or the like. This is unlawful for him during ‘Umrah except after shaving the head or shortening it. But during the Hajj, this is unlawful for the pilgrim except after performing the three acts due on the Day of Sacrifice; i.e., throwing the pebbles, slaughtering one's Hady (sacrificial animal) and shaving or shortening one's hair. For the person who is performing Hajj Tamattu’, he should add to the previous acts Tawaaf (circumambulating around the Ka’bah). The pilgrim who performs Hajj Qiran and the one who performs Hajj Ifrad should also perform Tawaaf if they haven't performed Sa'y after the Tawaaf of arrival. Now anyone who performs the above can enjoy sex with his wife during the days of Mina. For more benefit on legal sex between spouses and the acts you should not indulge in with your wife, please refer to Fataawa 82256 and 82908.

Allah knows best.
