Celebrating Cultural Activities

Question:

What does Islam say about celebrating cultural activities in Islam?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

Islam does not object to celebrating cultural activities such as the end of school year celebration and the completion of a training course, etc. This is so, because originally anything that people innovate as far as traditions and customs are concerned, is lawful unless there is evidence proving the opposite.

We are not aware of any evidence in the Sharee’ah objecting to such celebrations.

Allah knows best.
