Removing the nails and braiding the hair on day of Eid

18-2-2004 | IslamWeb

Question:

Is it prohibited in Islam for a Muslim (man or woman) to remove the nails and for the Muslim woman to braid her natural hair on Eid day (either Eid ul-Adha or Eid ul-Fitr).

Answer:

Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.

A Muslim is required to cut his nails at all times except if he is in a state of Ihram and has not yet finished the rituals that make what was forbidden for him before Ihram lawful.  If someone wants to slaughter on Eid Day, it is desirable for him not to cut his fingers or hair until he slaughters.

It is permissible for a woman to braid her hair in Eid Day or any other day if there is no imitation of Kufar (non-Muslims).

Allah knows best.
