Question:

What is the status of the Hadeeth in which the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said that the soldiers of Egypt were the best soldiers on earth?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and messenger.

The Hadeeth in question was mentioned by Al-Ajlooni may Allaah have mercy upon him without referring to either its source or status. It was not mentioned in any other available reference.

However, the virtue of Egypt was also mentioned in a Hadeeth narrated on the authority of Abu Tharr may Allaah be pleased with him. In this Hadeeth the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, gave glad tidings to the Companions may Allaah be pleased with them that they would conquer Egypt and ordered them to treat its people well since they had right to sanctity and ties of kinship. [Muslim]

Az-Zuhri stated that the ties of kinship came from the fact that Haajar, the mother of Ismaaeel (Ishmael), may Allaah exalt their mention, was Egyptian; and the right to security was for the sake of her husband prophet Ibraaheem (Abraham) may Allaah exalt his mention.

Allaah Knows best.
