Studying in Tarim, Yemen

10-4-2004 | IslamWeb

Question:

Here in Sweden we have many young students who have already gone, and others planning to go, to study in a specific traditional Islamic school in Tarim, Yemen. What advice can you give us about this school?

Answer:

Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.

After enquiring about this school in Tarim, we found out that it is a Centre that teaches the Shafi’e Fiqh, the Arabic language, and other fields of knowledge.

However, it is one of the centers that spreads Sufi thought.  Some of them go beyond what is Islamicly acceptable.  They seek help from other than Allah, like dead people, etc.

But others are more moderate.

So, we advise anyone seeking good knowledge to join another institution that teaches authentic Sunnah of the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) and adheres to it.  There is no objection to your studying Shafi’e Fiqh or any other Fiqh school provided it is authentic and free from Bid’ah (bad innovation).

Allah knows best.
