Husband does not pray

Question:

I'm Moroccan married in England 2 years ago. My husband is an English Muslim; he fasted in Ramadan all those 2 years but does not pray. When I tell him about prayers he says, he isn't ready to pray, even if he prays he does so for my sake. I need your answer please what should I do?

Answer:

Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.

Neglecting prayers totally is an act of disbelief (Kufr) that takes one out of the fold of Islam according the preponderant opinion of Muslim scholars.  The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) said:The pact between us and them is prayer. Whoever abandons it is a disbeliever.[Related by Ahmad, Abu Dawud, Al-Tirmidhi,AnNasa'I and Ibn Majah].

Therefore, you have to exhort him and explain to him the rulings of prayer.  It might be good to seek the help of those people who have influence upon him such as Muslim scholars, Imam of mosque or the like. If he performs prayer then be thankful to Allah and do not bother to scrutinize his intention.

If he insists on neglecting prayers then you have to separate from him and take divorce from him since living with a person who does not perform prayers is not allowed.

Allah knows best.
