When wearing the hijab is not obligatory

Question:

Please can you answer this question? I have been told by some sisters that you should keep your hijab on all the time even in the house as the angels see you, in the bathroom and even sleeping. I am new convert to Islam. I want to find out the truth about this as I have not been wearing it at home, only when I pray and when I have to leave the home.
I understood that your home is your place where you can be free.
Can you answer this for me please?

Answer:

Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.

The woman is not asked to adhere to Hijab except when she wants to go outside her home or if she is in a place where there are men alien to her.

However, if she is in her home and there is no man alien to her then she is not ordered to wear Hijab. But she should cover of her body what should be normally covered when in the presence of Maharms (non-marriageable men) or in the presence of fellow women.

From the above you know that what these sisters told you is completely false.

We ask Allah to make us and you steadfast on His right path.

Allah knows best.
