Question:

My name is Ibraaheem, I am 31 years old and my wife is 46 years old, we are thinking to have a baby, for some medical problems my wife cannot get pregnant naturally, and we were offered by a female friend of us that she would carry the fertilized egg from us into her body that is to give us a chance to have our baby, meaning the doctor will get an egg from my wife and a sperm from me and fertilize the egg and then put it into our friends body, is that Halaal or Haraam, knowing that it is our last chance to see our own baby and also knowing that adoption is Haraam.

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.

This method is not permissible. The Islaamic Fiqh committee of the Islaamic World League, in its 5th conference held in 1402 A.H. forbade this kind of fertilization. Another decision of the Islaamic Fiqh committee of the Islaamic congress in its 3rd conference also forbade this method. So if it is not possible to get fertilization by another permissible method, then you have to be patient and seek the reward from Allaah. You can marry another woman who would give birth to children, and, therefore, your problem will be solved; your wife has to be patient and seek the reward from Allaah, as there maybe good in this.

Allaah knows best.
