Reward of the martyr

Question:

Where might one get the idea that a martyr will be granted a number of virgins in Jannah? This is something I hear too often from the opposition to Islaam.

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.

The evidence that a martyr will be granted a number of Hoor Al-'Een (women of Paradise) is confirmed in the Sunnah of the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) as he said : "The martyr has six qualities: He will be forgiven from the first drop of blood, he will see his position in Paradise, he will be saved from the punishment of the grave, he will be safe from the horrors of the Day of Judgement, the crown of honour and dignity will be put on his head-a ruby of which is better than the whole world and whatever it contains, he will have 72 wives of Hoor Al-'Een (women of Paradise) and he will intercede for seventy relatives." [At-Tirmithi]

So this narration confirms that the martyr will get 72 women of Paradise. Finally, we advise the brother not to listen to the misconceptions that the enemies of Islam are spreading to prejudice the greatness of this religion of Islam.

Allaah knows best.
