Advising someone from Hadeeth without knowing number, text, etc.

Question:

Is it permissible to advice someone from Hadeeth without known its Hadeeth number, source book, Arabic version, etc.?
For example, I know that wearing gold is Haraam for men, but I don't know which Hadeeth saying that it is Haraam.
Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.

 

Deducting something from a narration of the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) or from other evidences is only for persons who are qualified, as those texts might have been abrogated, restricted (to the happening of specific things), being applied to a particular circumstance or condition, or include contradictions and other matters that should be taken into account when deducing. Thus whoever is qualified for deducing from texts can do so be it from a narration of the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) or from religious principles and evidences even if he does not know the number and the source. But whoever is not qualified is not permitted to make such deductions even if he knows the number and the source of the text, and he has to ask the scholars may Allaah have mercy upon them as Allaah says (which means): {So ask the people of the message [i.e. former scriptures] if you do not know.}[16:43].
