Question:

Mine is more of an advise. I come from a Muslim family. But my parents are not very religious. I would like to get married to a very religious man. But the problem is my parents cannot find that for me. The Islam community here is not strong. So I cannot rely on leaders in mosque. What is your advice, how can I go about it? Any solution?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.

First of all we thank you for being keen to get married to a very religious man at a time when women who think about this are so few. Most of the women nowadays are only interested in getting married with a rich person or a person who has degrees and certificates even if he is a dissolute one.

We advise you to supplicate Allaah and invoke him earnestly to bless you with a pious husband as the sovereignty and the treasures of each and everything are in the Hands of Allaah and it is He who decreed the provisions of all the creatures. Furthermore, you can seek a pious man through your trustworthy female friends or trustworthy Islamic sites which specialize in marrying young men and young women. If you find your objective [a person whose religion and good moral conduct are pleasing] then there is no harm Islamicly to propose yourself to him for marriage on the condition that you should not be alone with him when you propose to him and should be safe from being tempted by him. You should advise him to approach your parents to ask for your hand. Imaam Al-Bukhari may Allaah have mercy upon him reported that Sahl Ibn Sa'd may Allaah be pleased with him said: "We were sitting with the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) and a woman came and proposed herself to him (i.e. for marriage)…" Imaam Al-Haafith Ibn Hajar may Allaah have mercy upon him commented on this narration saying: "This narration is an evidence that it is permissible for a woman to propose herself for marriage to a man and inform him of her desire to get married to him, and there is nothing wrong about her in doing so.

Allaah knows best.
