Questionable practices at work

Question:

I have two questions: I work in a Western company and I'm always invited to eat dinner in my colleagues' houses, knowing that I don't eat anything Haraam, is it forbidden to socialize with them?
I'm preparing expenses claim sheets for my manager to get refund of this expenses though they are not all spent for work (a lot of his personal expenses are included) and he is shareholder at 30% in the company. I feel he is stealing this money. Should I stop typing these claims for him?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.

In relation to mixing and socializing with non-Muslims, please refer to Fatwa: ">85767.

As regards preparing expenses claim sheets at work for your manager, if you are sure that he is taking this money without any right, then it is not permissible for you to prepare these claim sheets, as in doing so you are helping him in sin and transgression.  Allaah says (which means): {Help you one another in virtue, righteousness and piety but do not help one another in sin and transgression.}[5:2].

Finally, we remind you that there are conditions that a woman should meet in order for her to work, as it is not permissible for her to work if she fails to meet them.

1.     The type of work should be permissible and suitable for the nature and situation of the woman.

2.     The work place should be free from other prohibitions such as forbidden mixing and the like.

3.     She should wear her Hijab when going out and not speak in a soft attractive tone with men.

If any of the above conditions is not met, then it is not permissible for the woman to work except for a dire necessity. If there is a dire necessity for her to work, then this necessity should be weighed within its proper limits.

For more benefit, please refer to Fataawa: 83607 and 82617.

Allaah knows best.
