Question:

I don't know if you will be able to help me or not but Inshaa Allaah, it should be of some benefit, I don't know if you guys know about OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder), but I think I have it, I have discussed with my brother and mother also, and both of them want me to go without the medication Inshaa Allaah, especially my mother, as I am only 16 years old, and also, of course, the medicine carries side effects. I am fine either way Inshaa Allaah, I can take this as a test, but I want to choose the action which will please Allaah more, to take the medication or not, what is the viewpoint of Islam on medicine? Inshaa Allaah with Allaah, I can beat this without the medicine, but I want to be sure if what I am doing is right, and if Allah is pleased with it. Hope to hear from you soon.

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.

We have already issued Fatwa: 86483 on the ruling of seeking treatment in Islam, so please refer to it. Seeking treatment is allowed in Islam and this does not negate relying and having one's trust in Allaah and this does not undermine His Pleasure. As regards whether you will take the medicines or treat yourself without medicine, in this matter you should seek the advise of your doctor so that he would advise you as to what benefits you.  Nonetheless, you should take into account the wish of your mother and act upon her advice as she has a right on you. We ask Allaah to cure you from all diseases.

For more benefit on whispers, please refer to Fataawa: 83401, 8462587166 and 85823.

Allaah Knows best.
