Wearing a bandana instead of Hijab

Question:

I am 15 and I was wondering if I would be able to wear a bandana instead of a Hijaab, a bandana is like a hat. It covers up all of my hair, so would I be able to wear it instead of a Hijaab?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.

In our view, is not permissible to wear a bandana and go away with the Hijab because even if the bandana covers all the hair, it is still not sure that it covers the neck. It is an obligation on a Muslim woman to wear the Hijab with the descriptions mentioned in Fatwa 83702. Also, please refer to Fatwa 85054.

Finally, we ask Allaah to enable you to do whatever He likes and He is pleased with.

Allaah Knows best.
