An Abyssinian will demolish the Ka'bah

Question:

I would like to know if the following is true and is it one of the sign of the Day of Judgement. An Abyssinian leader with thin shins will destroy the Ka'bah.

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.

The demolition of the Ka'bah is one of the signs that the Hour is near, but it is not one of the signs of the Day of Judgement. The Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said: "Thus-Suwayqatayn (small-legged) from Abyssinia will demolish the Ka'bah." [Al-Bukhari and Muslim] However, in the narration reported by Imaam Ahmad, there is an addition which reads: "He will take all its jewellery and treasures. He is a bald, thin-legged man who will hit it with his axe and his pick." Imaam Ibn Hajar may Allaah have mercy upon him said: 'This incident will not take place except at the end of the time before the Hour.'
