Bride's beautification in a beauty parlor

29-12-2005 | IslamWeb

Question:

Inshaa Allaah, coming July will be my marriage. Shall I do facial in beauty parlor.

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

There are many kinds of beautification, some of which are forbidden and some of which are permissible. For instance it is permissible to shorten and tidy the hair of your head, and apply cream to your face with permissible creams, i.e. creams which are not impure and which do not cause any harm, and which do not prevent the water from reaching the skin when performing ablution for the prayer.

However, it is not permissible to remove the hair of the eyebrows, or join the hair with another hair, and this applies to the hair of your head or eyebrows.

To conclude, a Muslim woman should not undertake any form of beautification until she finds out whether it is forbidden or permissible. For instance she may define and describe the type of beautification and then she should ask the scholars about the ruling.
