A French kiss between men

Question:

Is it permissible for a man to French kiss a man while none of them feels any sexual joy?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.

It is not permissible for a man to kiss another man in his mouth, and it is not permissible for a woman to kiss another woman in her mouth. Likewise, it is not permissible for them to hug each while having no clothes which separate them; all this, of course, applies to cases when there is a sexual desire, and there is no difference of opinion among the scholars may Allaah have mercy upon them on this issue. The evidence is that the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) forbade hugging without having a separation of clothes, and forbade kissing. [Ibn Abu Shaybah] Another narration reads: "The Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) forbade a man to hug another man if there are no clothes on their body, and forbade a woman hugging another woman if one or both of them have no clothes on their bodies." [Ahmad]

However, if kissing is a sign reflecting kindness and glorification, then this is permissible. Nonetheless, the kissing about which the questioner asked is impossible to be for kindness and glorification, rather it is most likely initiated by desires. The claim that it is not accompanied by sexual desire is rejected as most likely it is for initiated by sexual desires.

The scholars may Allaah have mercy upon them mentioned that this kind of kissing is a permissible foreplay between the husband and his wife; rather it is something that should be done before having sexual intercourse.

Allaah Knows best.
