Question:

In many cases people use the verse from the Quran {“Yes, but [I ask] only that my heart may be satisfied.”}[Quran 2:260]. What is the religious ruling on this?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.

There is no harm in using this verse as evidence on a context which is similar to the situation in which it is said. This is considered as extracting some texts from the Quran and applying them on a context which is similar to it. Ibn ‘Aqeel may Allaah have mercy upon him was asked about extracting some verses from the Quran and stating them at the end of a lecture. He said: 'There is no harm in using the verses of the Quran in contexts which are similar to the context of the Quran, as a way of seeking the eloquence of speech.'

Allaah Knows best.
