Question:

Who are Ya’juj and Ma’juj (Gog and Magog)?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

Samurah, may Allah be pleased with him, narrated that the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said: “The children of Adam (may Allah exalt his mention) are three: “Saam, the father of the Arabs, Haam, the father of the Sudanese, and Yaafith, the father of the Turks.” [Ahmad]

An-Nawawi may Allaah have mercy upon him said: “They are from the children of Aadam may Allaah exalt his mention according to the view of the majority of the scholars, may Allah have mercy on them.

The outstanding scholar, As-Safaareeni may Allaah have mercy upon him reported that Ibn Katheer may Allaah have mercy upon him said: “Ya’juj and Ma’juj (Gog and Magog) are two groups of Turks from the offspring of Aadam may Allaah exalt his mention.” Then he added: “They are from the offspring of Nooh (Noah) may Allaah exalt his mention from the progeny of Yaafith, the father of the Turks.
