Teaching an adolescent the rulings that apply to a pubescent person

Question:

I have a fifteen year-old boy, how should I explain to him puberty and the age of adolescence?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.

You have to explain to your son the signs of puberty and the rulings of purity and other religious matters that he will be in need of. You have to explain this to him in simple words and thoroughly while observing bashfulness.

Besides, you are obliged to teach him a concise Fiqh booklet if you can do so by yourself, otherwise you may refer him to a trustworthy scholar [or student of knowledge]. You have to teach him to ask about things he does not know and explain to him that being shy in these matters [in asking about religious matters] is dispraised and not praised at all in religion.

Allaah Knows best.
