Question:

I am a married woman and my husband stayed in seclusion with the house maid. What is your opinion?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.

Your husband was wrong as he stayed in seclusion with the maid because she is a marriageable woman to him. Indeed the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said: "A man should not stay in seclusion with a woman except with her Mahram (non-marriageable relative)." [Al-Bukhari] The Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) further said: "There is absolutely no man who stays in seclusion with a woman except that the devil is their third companion." [At-Tirmithi] Therefore, your husband is obliged to repent to Allaah and seek His Forgiveness, and he should not do this again. Indeed the devil runs in the veins of the person. So you should take the measures which will prevent your husband from staying in seclusion with the maid. You should help him to obey Allaah, and prevent him from committing sins.

Allaah Knows best.
