Memorizing the Quran in a group

Question:

Is it permissible to memorize the Quran in a group?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.

If you mean that a Muslim memorizes the Quran with a group of people in a way that each one of them would read and the others would listen to him and correct him, then there is no harm in this. If all the group read at the same time in order to memorize what is read and this method is proven efficient then there is no harm in this also provided this is done for this purpose only [for memorizing] as long as this is not taken as an act of worship or a supererogatory act of worship when reciting the Quran, as in this case it will be considered an innovation.

Allaah Knows best.
