Question:

I want to know the text and the narrator of the narration which means “Were the faith of Abu Bakr, may Allaah be pleased with him, to be weighed on one side of a scale and the faith of all the people in the other side, the faith of Abu Bakr, may Allaah be pleased with him, would outweigh the faith of all the people.”

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.

This statement is said by ‘Umar may Allaah be pleased with him with a good chain of narrators, and it is reported by Al-Bayhaqi may Allaah have mercy upon him. The wording of the statement is: “Were the faith of Abu Bakr may Allaah be pleased with him to be weighed on one side of a scale and the faith of the people around the whole world on the other side, the faith of Abu Bakr may Allaah be pleased with him would outweigh the faith of all the people around the world.”

Moreover, this statement is also reported by At-Tirmithi, Is-Haaq Ibn Raahawayh and Imaam Ahmad Ibn Hanbal may Allaah have mercy upon them.

However, Ibn ‘Ady may Allaah have mercy upon him attributed it to the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) but this is a weak narration.

Allaah Knows best.
