Standing in silence as a sign of honour to the martyrs

Question:

What is the ruling on what is called standing in mourning for the martyrs?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.

To stand for a moment in silence as a way of mourning the dead is a disobedient act and an innovation in Islam. This was neither known during the reign of the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) nor during the time of his companions may Allaah be pleased with them nor the time of our righteous predecessors of this nation; this is nothing but an imitation of non-Muslims by some ignorant Muslims.

The rights of the dead that are known in Islam are supplicating to him, donating on his behalf, mentioning his good deeds, concealing his sins, and other legislated matters in Islam, but there is nothing such as standing in silence for the dead.

Allaah Knows best.
