Eating from Aqeeqah's meat

Question:

after aqeeqah is done can we keep some amount of meat with us.

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.

There is no harm for a person to keep some meat of the 'Aqeeqah for eating, and it is even permissible for him to eat it all [without donating anything of it]. Ibn Al-Qaasim may Allaah have mercy upon him said: "Maalik may Allaah have mercy upon him was asked whether it is permissible to keep [for one's own need] the meat of the 'Aqeeqah and he said: "The people [who slaughter 'Aqeeqah] used to eat it, and there is no harm in this."

Ibn Seereen may Allaah have mercy upon him said: ''One may do whatever he likes with the 'Aqeeqah." Moreover, Al-Khiraqi may Allaah have mercy upon him from the Hanbali school said: "It is permissible for a person to divide the 'Aqeeqah into three parts, two parts or to eat it all, or to donate it all, or to invite people to eat it." However, some jurists may Allaah have mercy upon them are of the view that it is desirable for the meat of the 'Aqeeqah to be divided into three parts exactly like the 'Eed sacrifice: one should eat a third, gift a third and give a third in charity.

Al-Buhooti may Allaah have mercy upon him from the Hanbali school said: "The ruling on 'Aqeeqah on what is sufficient, desirable, disliked, eating it, gifting it or giving it in charity, is like the sacrifice of 'Eed."

Allaah Knows best.
