Question:

What is the meaning of ‘I take refuge in Allaah’s perfect Words from the evil that He has created’? What are Allaah’s perfect Words?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.

An-Nawawi may Allaah have mercy upon him when interpreting the narration reported by Muslim may Allaah have mercy upon him he interpreted the term “Allaah’s Words” to mean ‘the Quran’. He interpreted the word ‘perfect’ to mean ‘complete, which are free of any deficiency or imperfection’. Perfect was also interpreted to mean beneficial and a cure. Al-Mubaarak Poori may Allaah have mercy upon him said the same thing. However, Az-Zarqaani, and Al-Munaawi may Allaah have mercy upon them interpreted the term ‘Words’ to mean Allaah’s Names and Attributes, and Allaah’s revealed Books.

Allaah Knows best.
