Playing football in a car parking lot in the mosque’s premises

Question:

Assalamualaikum. What is the Islamic ruling regarding playing soccer at car parking spaces located within the boundary of a mosque? Jazakumullah Khairal Jaza.

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

If the religious requirements which are mentioned in Fatwa 83842 are observed and playing soccer or playing in the vicinity of the mosque does not cause any harm to the people who pray in the mosque or any damage to the cars, then it is permissible to play in the car parking lot.

It is confirmed that the Ethiopians played with their axes in the mosque and the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) was looking at them [and did not prohibit them from doing so].

However, if playing in the vicinity of the mosque or in the car parking lot causes harm to cars or to the praying people, or any other harm, then it is not permissible to play as the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said: There should be no harm nor reciprocal harm. [Ahmad and Ibn Maajah].

Allaah Knows best.
