Question:

asalamualikum can you tell me if there is a prophet called armeeyah and is he mentioned in qasas ambiyah ? if so who was he etc ? jazakallah u kahyr

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

Armiyaa' may Allaah exalt his mention was a Prophet among the children of Israel, this is what Al-Baghawi may Allaah have mercy upon him stated in his Tafseer (interpretation of the Quran): "He is from the offspring of Haaroon Ibn 'Imraan." His story is also mentioned by a number of biographers and historians.

As regards the story of this Prophet may Allaah exalt his mention we are unable to mention it in details here, but its summary is as follows:

-         Armiyaa' may Allaah exalt his mention was a son of one of the Kings, and he led an ascetic life.

-         When great events happened in the children of Israel and they killed the Prophets, Allaah revealed to him that he will be a reason of the destruction of the children of Israel, and ordered him to go to the stone of Jerusalem and admonish them.

-         Armiyaa' may Allaah exalt his mention supplicated: "O Allaah, I am weak unless you strengthen me, unable unless you enable me to achieve my objective, and faulty unless you guide my steps.” Thereupon, Allaah informed him that He is with him and revealed to him the details of what to say to the children of Israel.

-         He conveyed the message from Allaah to the children of Israel but they disobeyed him and belied him. They took him, tied him and imprisoned him. As a result, Allaah sent to them a tyrant king, who was Bakhtansar who severely tortured them.

Allaah Knows best.
