Question:

Is there a Hadeeth ordering the person who lives near a mosque not to pray in any place other than this? Please advise. May Allaah reward you.

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

Ad-Daar Qutni, Al-Haakim and Al-Bayhaqi may Allaah have mercy upon them narrated the Hadeeth in which the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, forbade the person who lives near a mosque from performing his prayer in any place other than the mosque. Ibn Al-Jawzi considers this Hadeeth fabricated, however Al-Albaani considers this Hadeeth Dha‘eef.

Therefore this Hadeeth is Dha‘eef, but its meaning is narrated in a Saheeh Hadeeth. Read Fatwa 82538.

Allaah knows best.
