Question:

An innovation has eaten and even overshadowed the Ibadah and hearts of many Muslims in Africa, they perform a partcular thing,, they make a circle and put a white cloth in the middle, and making several duas, claiming that the Angels wil descend on the white cloth. They do this in mosque espacially after SOLAT MAGHRIB, even some will abandon Solat claiming what they do more is more rewarding than Solat. They have different Shaikhs who claim they receive revelations. Above all, they said the founder of this was Sheikh Ibrahim Niyas from Senegal, who claimed that he saw the Prophet[SAW] in the dreams, please, what is ISLAMIC POINT OF VIEW?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

The claim of the group whom you mentioned is true but they receive revelation from the devil, as Allaah Says (what means): {And indeed do the devils inspire their allies [among men] to dispute with you.} [Quran 6:121]. Ibn 'Umar may Allaah be pleased with him was told that Ibn Abu 'Ubayd Ath-thaqafi claimed that he received revelation, thereupon he said: ''He is truthful, Allaah Says (what means): {And indeed do the devils inspire their allies [among men]…}.

As regards the revelation from Allaah, then Allaah concluded His Revelation with the last Prophet and Messenger Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) and He informed us that he was the last Prophet and Messenger. Therefore, whoever claims that he receives revelation after the prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is a liar and a disbeliever [non Muslim] and he is included in the statement of Allaah (which means): {And who is more unjust than one who invents a lie about Allaah or says. “It has been inspired to me,” while nothing has been inspired to him.} [Quran 6:93].

In addition to this, their abandonment of the prayer believing that their innovation is more important or better than the prayer and putting a cloth claiming that the angels will descend on it, all this is a religious innovation and a lie. The prayer is the second most important pillar of Islam after the Two Testimonies of Faith, and the angels are part of the knowledge of the Unseen, and it is not possible to authoritatively assert that they descend, let alone sit on the cloth. Moreover, it is most unlikely that the angels would descend on gatherings of innovations and Shirk (associating partners with Allaah). Rather, it is the devils who descend on such gatherings, as Allaah Says (what means): {Shall I inform you upon whom the devils descend? They descend upon every sinful liar. They pass on what is heard, and most of them are liars.} [Quran 26:221-223].

Finally, we advise you and other brothers to warn against this group and their innovations, in return for the reward from Allaah. Warning against innovations and innovators is striving in the path of Allaah and defending His Religion.

Allaah Knows best.
