Rulings and Etiquette of ‘Eed - II

Rulings and Etiquette of ‘Eed - II
1-   Going to the ‘Eed Prayer using one route and returning via another one, as Jaabir ibn ‘Abdullaah may Allah be pleased with him narrated that the Prophet, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allah exalt his mention ), used to do so.
Ibn Al-Qayyim may Allah have mercy upon him said:
The Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allah exalt his mention ) used to go to the ‘Eed Prayer on foot taking one route and then return via another one. There are many opinions regarding the rationale behind this:
-      It was said that he used to do so to greet the people along both routes.
-      It was said that it was in order to make them equal because they are blessed by his passing through.
-      It was said it was to satisfy the needs of both of them.
-      It was said that it was to make manifest the symbols of Islam on both routes.
-      It was said that it was to annoy the hypocrites or the Jews, or to alarm them by showing the strength of Islam and the establishment of its rites.
-      It was said that he used to do so to make many places testify for him when going to or returning from the place of prayer, especially given that each step wipes out one's sins and another step elevates one's rank until one returns to his house.
The most correct view is that he did this for all these and other reasons.
2-   The occurrence of Friday Prayer and ‘Eed Prayer on the same day. If they occur on one day, then the one who performs the ‘Eed Prayer is exempted from the Friday Prayer, as the Prophet, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allah exalt his mention ), said on such occurrence: “Two festivals ('Eed and Friday) have synchronized on this day. If anyone does not want to offer the Friday Prayer, the 'Eed Prayer is sufficient for him. However, we shall offer the Friday Prayer.” [Abu Daawood]
The Imam should hold the Friday Prayer for those who want to perform it and for those who did not attend the ‘Eed Prayer. According to the preponderant opinion of scholars, the one who does not attend the Friday Prayer for having performed the ‘Eed Prayer must perform the Thuhr Prayer. However, it is better to perform both the ‘Eed and Friday Prayers to be rewarded for them both.
3-   Some Muslims commit a number of violations on the day and night of the ‘Eed, including the following:
1-   Collective Takbeer in one voice or repeating after someone who says “Allahu Akbar,” or even inventing some impermissible wordings of Takbeer.
2-   Believing in the exceptional merit of the night prayer during the ‘Eed night based on unauthentic Hadeeths.
3-   Dedicating the ‘Eed Day to visiting the graves and greeting the dead.
4-   Unlawful intermixing between men and women in some places of prayer, streets, and parks.
5-   Some people gather on the ‘Eed Day to listen to singing and impermissible entertainment, which is absolutely forbidden.
6-   Illegal exposure of women’s adornment and not adhering to Hijab. The Muslim woman should preserve her honor and chastity through wearing modest clothes, because her real pride is in adherence to the teachings of her religion and chastity.
7-   Some women go to the ‘Eed Prayer exposing their adornment and applying perfume and this is of course impermissible.
8-   Excessive use of lawful things such as food, drink and clothing until it reaches the verge of extravagance. Allah The Almighty Says (what means): {…eat and drink, but be not excessive. Indeed, He likes not those who commit excess.}[Quran 7:31]
9-   Some people show happiness on ‘Eed because the month of Ramadan has ended and he has been relieved of worship as if it was an excessive burden. No doubt, this feeling is extremely dangerous.
10-       Some people do not perform the ‘Eed Prayer depriving themselves of the reward and witnessing the Muslims' gathering, probably due to staying up late.
11-       Some people spend the night of ‘Eed harming the Muslims and pursuing their faults by means of harassing them over the telephone or in the markets that are crowded with women in full adornment. The result is destroying homes, breaking-up families and ruining people’s lives after they were leading a peaceful life.
12-       Some people consider ‘Eed an occasion for increasing their ill-gains through fraud, deception, lying, and consuming people’s money illegally as if Allah The Almighty does not oversee them. Such people sell prohibited foods and drinks, as well as things that destroy homes and societies.
13-       Children and adolescents often play with fireworks on the occasions and nights of Ramadan, which annoy those who perform prayers, frighten peaceful people and cause many disasters and injuries. Many people have been injured in their heads or eyes due to the carelessness of others.
Finally, it is said that whoever wants to know the real morals of a nation, should see how its members behave during the festivals, when everyone gives full reign to their true nature, feelings and traditions to appear as they really are. A righteous and good society adheres to sublime morals during its festivals, and strengthens the feelings of brotherhood. A good society appears coherent, cooperative, compassionate and full of love and cordiality during the ‘Eed.
