Using L-Glutathione tablets to remove skin Tanning

Question

Assalamu Alaikum, My questions is regarding L-Glutathione tablets. Basically, when I was born I was very light & fair skinned, as I grew up without protecting my skin with sun lotion, my skin became dark and started to tan which has resulted in permanant discolouration on my hands, neck, face and other areas, I have tried to get rid of this tan, but it seems to not go away, I have been using sun lotion for about 2 years and have still remained dark in these areas. I was wondering whether it was possible for me to consume L-Glutathione tablets, these tablets have many benefits for the body as well as being fully rich in antioxidants. It also helps to improve eye sight due to having glutathione present in it. However one of the side effects, which is not detrimental to health is that it naturally whitens the skin. My questions is am I able to use these healthy tablets in order to gain back my natural skin colour as well as improve my vision. This is solely for myself, I have become very depressed about my discolouration and wear make up to cover this up. I am becoming sick and tired of doing so and just want my normal skin colour back. Therefore is it ok for me to use these tablets for both my skin and eyes? If you could please get back to me as soon as possible, I would be extremely grateful NB: My skin colour discolouration is not an abnormal condition that has been diagnosed by the doctor, it is just permanent discolouration due to dangerous sun exposure which, for 2 and half years has not gone Jazakallahu Khairun Wa Alaikumas Salaam

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

In principle it is permissible to use these tablets as all things are permissible unless there is evidence that they are forbidden.

Therefore, it is permissible to use these tablets in order to remove these tan stains (from your skin) as this is beneficial unless it is confirmed that there is a greater harm in using them.

In fact, using these tablets for the purpose that you mentioned in the question is not changing Allaah’s Creation but it is seeking treatment or removing what looks ugly, and this is permissible. Usaamah ibn Shareek may Allaah be pleased with him narrated that the Bedouins came and asked the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ): "Shall we seek medical treatment?” The Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) answered: ''Yes, seek medical treatment. Allaah did not make a disease without appointing a remedy for it except one disease which is senility.” [Ahmad, Abu Daawood, At-Tirmithi and Ibn Maajah]

Allaah Knows best.
