Parents of Quran memorizer honored in this world and in the Hereafter

Question

Assalaamu alaykum. I want to know what a memorizer of the Quran should give his mother once he finishes memorizing the whole Quran.

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

Memorizing the entire Quran is one of the greatest blessings of Allaah Almighty. A believer rejoices with this blessing as he knows that Allaah honors those who memorize the entire Quran by heart and those who act according to it.

Along with Allaah honoring those who memorized the Quran, Allaah honors the parents of the one who memorized it. The Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said, “Whoever recites the Quran, memorizes it, and acts upon it, on the Day of Judgment, he will be clad (by angels) with a crown of light, its light is like the sunlight, and his parents will be clad with two garments better than the whole world and whatever it contains.” So they will wonder, “What made us deserve this?” They will be told, “Your son memorized the Quran.” [Al-Haakim]

The Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) also said, “Whoever recites the Quran and acts upon it, on the Day of Judgment ,his parents will be clad with a crown, its brightness will be more intense than the brightness of the sun in your actual houses…

Part of being kind and dutiful to the parents is that the child offers them gifts on legitimate occasions, such as when he completes the memorization of the Quran, especially if the parents helped him in memorizing it. But he is not obliged to do this, and he is not sinful if he does not offer them anything.

However, if you are asking us to suggest to you what you might gift your mother on this blessed and happy occasion on which you completed the memorization of the Book of Allaah, then the answer is that you are more aware than us of what makes your mother happy. If she longs to perform ‘Umrah and you can afford to bear the expenses, then you should help her to perform ‘Umrah, and if she needs some clothes or home appliances, then you may fulfill her need and buy this for her, and if she likes a type of food, then you may bring it to her, and so forth.

Allaah knows best.
