Question
Is eating meat of a donkey giraffe Haram or Halal?
Answer
Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions. Eating the meat of domestic donkeys is forbidden. Jabir narrated from the Prophet (Salla Allahu Alaihi Wa Sallam) that He forbade eating donkey-meat. [ al-Bukhari and Muslim ] It is also narrated in Musnad Ahmad that the Prophet (Salla Allahu Alaihi Wa Sallam) said: Oh, do know! Eating domestic donkey is not allowed. Sheikh al-Albani and al-Arnawoot considered the Hadith sound. As for the meat of giraffes, the majority of Muslim scholars are of the opinion that it is lawful since there is no evidence that proves its prohibition. Allah knows best.
