All parts of the swine are forbidden

Question

A mowlavi from India says only the flesh of a swine is haraam other parts are halaal. Is it true? SALAAM

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

We have already issued Fataawa 84466, 90844 and 90953 clarifying that the flesh of swine and its fat are forbidden and that any product to which the ingredients of pork are added is forbidden.

Indeed, Al-Qadhi Abu Bakr ibn Al-‘Arabi may Allaah have mercy upon him reported the agreement of the scholars may Allaah have mercy upon them that all the flesh and all parts of the pig are forbidden as he said in Ahkaam Al-Quran: “The nation agreed that the flesh of swine including all its parts are forbidden, and the flesh is mentioned here because the swine is an animal that is slaughtered for its meat.” So, he stated the reason why the word flesh is mentioned in the verse.

In fact, what the Shaykh whom you mentioned in the question stated was not even stated by Ibn Hazm, who explains the texts according to their apparent meaning as he said: “It is not permissible to eat any part of the pig: its meat, its fat, its skin, its nerve, its cartilage, its entrails, its brain, its bone, its head, its limbs, its milk and its hair; this applies to both the male and female pig, young and old alike, and it is not permissible to benefit from its hair in sewing shoes with it or in anything else.

However, some scholars, are of the view that it is permissible to use its hair in sewing shoes in case of necessity.

Allaah Knows best.
