Two pillars of the Testimony of Faith

Question

How many are the pillars of the testimony: “Laa ilaaha illa Allaah (there is nothing worthy of worship except Allaah)”?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.

Basically, there are two main pillars in the great testimony of faith that there is none worthy of being worshiped except Allaah: a negation and an attestation. The meaning of these two pillars is that the Muslim negates the divinity of any other entity except Allaah The Almighty while at the same time testifying that it belongs to Allaah The Almighty alone. In other words, it refers to disbelieving in Taaghoot (any worshiped, followed or obeyed entity other than Allaah) and believing in Allaah The Almighty alone. In this regard, Allaah The Almighty Says (what means):

· {So whoever disbelieves in Taaghoot and believes in Allaah has grasped the most trustworthy handhold.} [Quran 2: 256]

· {And We certainly sent into every nation a messenger, [saying], "Worship Allaah and avoid Taaghoot."} [Quran 16: 36]

Allaah Knows best.
