Question

I was wondering about the remembrance of Allah and if you need to remember Allah every minute?

Answer

Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the World; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.

Dear brother, know that Allah did not tell us to do much of anything except Dhikr (remembrance of Allah The Almighty). Allah Says (interpretation of meaning): {O you who believe! Remember Allâh with much remembrance.} [33: 41]. Allah also Says (interpretation of meaning): {… and the men and the women who remember Allâh much with their hearts and tongues (while sitting, standing, lying, etc. for more than 300 times extra over the remembrance of Allâh during the five compulsory congregational prayers) or praying extra additional Nawâfil prayers of night in the last part of night, etc.) Allâh has prepared for them forgiveness and a great reward (i.e. Paradise).} [33:35]. Allah also Says (interpretation of meaning): {O you who believe! When you meet (an enemy) force, take a firm stand against them and remember the Name of Allâh much (both with tongue and mind), so that you may be successful.} [8: 45].
The person has to do as much Dhikr as he can as this will give him great benefits and profits in this life and the Hereafter. Some scholars believe that the number of such benefits is a hundred. Whoever wants to know these benefits could consult Ibn al-Qayyim 's book "Al-Wabil Al-Sayib".
However, Dhikr is not a mandatory act which the person should do and whoever fails to do so commits a sin. It is only a supererogatory act which helps the person get closer to Allah.
But the person commits a sin if he leaves any of the Dhikr that should be said in the prayer like the Dhikr during the Ruku the Sujud, the Tashahud and invoking blessing on the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) as stated by some scholars.
Allah knows best.
