Meat of animals slaughtered by someone who curses the Prophet’s companions
Fatwa No: 106778

Question

Assalamu Aalikum. my question is regarding the 'thabeeha' of those who curse the Prophet's companions. i live in north america and we have dispute among sheikhs here if the meat of ahl el kitaab is halal or not. But i was buying meat from a halal butcher store here once and a person 'muslim' stopped me and told me this is haram meat because this butcher place belongs to somebody who curses the Prophet's companions. So is it true that we are not also allowed to eat from the meat of those who curse the Prophet's companions and other deviant sects of islam hence we have major contradictions in the belief with them? jazakum Allah khair

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

We have already issued Fataawa 82899 and 82323 clarifying the ruling about the meat of animals slaughtered by the people of the Book, so please refer to them.

As regards the meat of animals slaughtered by the people who insult the companions then if they insult all the companions, or most of them, or insult those the superiority of whom is reported in religious texts by Tawaatur (please refer to note 1 below), like Abu Bakr, ‘Umar, ‘Uthmaan, ‘Aa’ishah or the remaining of the ten people who were given glad tidings to enter Paradise, and the like, then it is not permissible to eat the meat of animals slaughtered by them, as they are non-Muslims and are considered out of the fold of Islam because of denying the Quran and the Sunnah which spoke about the superiority of the companions and ordered us to seek forgiveness for them and ask Allaah to be pleased with them. For more benefit on the superiority of the companions, please refer to Fataawa 90407 and 86898.

Similarly, it is forbidden to eat the meat of animals slaughtered by those who claim that the Quran has been falsified or claim that it is someone else other than Allaah who is worthy of worship, or accuses The Mother of The Believers, ‘Aa’ishah of adultery while Allaah declared her innocent from this accusation in His Book and on the tongue of His Messenger .

Note 1: Tawaatur, means transmitting a narration or religious text by a group of narrators from a group of narrators, generation after generation and so forth, and they are all trustworthy people and it is absolutely impossible for them to agree on a lie.

Allaah Knows best.
