Question

How Authentic is Dua-e-Gunjal Arsh? If it is authentic, can you please provide us the reference(s).

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.

We have not come across any evidence about this supplication that you mentioned in the question and it clearly appears that its wording is fabricated because of the poor style of its words and meanings and this is enough evidence that they are not from the infallible Prophet Muhammad .

Indeed, Ibn Al-Qayyim clarified some general matters by which a Hadeeth is known to be fabricated, among which he mentioned the following: the poor style of the wording of the Hadeeth in a way that it sounds dull to the ear, and the sound nature of the person rejects it.

There is no doubt that this supplication with whatever is reported about its excellence belongs to this category [i.e. it is fabricated], let alone containing strange matters that contradict the religious texts (the Quran and the Sunnah). Among this is naming Allaah with names that are not confirmed in the Book of Allaah and the Sunnah of the Prophet like the names: Al-Burhaarn (the evidence), As-Saafi (the pure), Al-Mu’jiz (the miracle), Al-Qadeem (the eternal), Al-Mukhlis, (the one who purifies others) and Al-Faadil (the erudite). All these names are not among the Names and Attributes of Allaah.

Indeed, there are enough supplications in the Book of Allaah and the confirmed Sunnah of the Prophet and we have no need to resort to the supplication which you mentioned in the question. Nevertheless, many people are accustomed to leave what is confirmed and are concerned with what is not confirmed and this is nothing but a lure from the devil.

Allaah Knows best.
