Eloquence and fluency are gifts from Allaah
Fatwa No: 25512

Question

In light of the trivial and shallow programs the media offers to people, we notice that callers to Allaah The Almighty often use difficult phrases that almost need a dictionary to be decoded, meaning. Why do they not use a simpler language in order to better guide people to the right path?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.

Every situation requires a certain kind of speech that suits it. For example, the language that suits religious preaching may not suit that of a lecture or general religious speech, and these may not suit books or Fataawa (religious verdicts) that need to be approved and scrutinized. Indeed, eloquence and fluency are gifts that Allaah The Exalted grants to whoever He wills.

There is no doubt that the caller to Allaah The Almighty should use easy and clear language that could be understood by laypeople so as to be effective and successful.

Moreover, people should be aware of what the media offers, and avoid watching or listening to anything that Allaah The Almighty has forbidden such as music, singing and women's beautification and ‘Awraat (the body parts that must be covered according to Islam).

Allaah Knows best.
