Not true that footprint of Aadam is in Sri Lanka

Question

Is it correct that the footprint of Prophet Adam, may Allah exalt his mention, is on a mountain in Sri Lanka?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad, sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

It is not authentic that the footprint of Prophet Aadam (Adam), may Allah exalt his mention, is in Sri Lanka or elsewhere, and this claim has no basis. The only preserved footprint of a prophet is that of Prophet Ibraaheem (Abraham), may Allah exalt his mention, in Maqaam Ibraaheem (the standing place of Ibraaheem in Al-Masjid Al-Haraam in Makkah).

Shaykhul-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah said regarding the claim that the footprint of the Prophet, sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, was preserved in Damascus:

"As for the claims of the liars who see a footprint in a place and say that this is his footprint or the like, these are all lies. The stone footprints that are claimed to be his are all fabricated lies. Had these claims been true, it would have been prescribed for the Muslims to take those places as places of worship. Rather, Allah, the Exalted, did not command us to take the place where any prophet stood as a place of prayer except that of Ibraaheem in the verse (which means): {And take, (O believers), from the standing place of Ibraaheem (Abraham) a place of prayer.} [Quran 2:125]"

He also wrote, "There is a mosque known as Masjid Qadam in Damascus containing an imprint claimed to be the footprint of Moosa (Moses). This is false and has no grounds at all..." [Iqtidhaa' As-Siraat Al-Mustaqeem]

Allah knows best.
