Question

What is the meaning of Electronic Jihaad and how can it be done? Is it sufficient to use it only under the current circumstances?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and messenger.

Undoubtedly, there are many types of Jihaad, such as Jihaad with words by calling to Allaah The Exalted and enjoining good and forbidding evil. In this regard, it was narrated on the authority of Anas that the Prophet, sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, commanded Muslims to undertake Jihaad against polytheists sacrificing their wealth, their souls and with their tongues. [Ahmad, Abu Daawood & An-Nasaa’i]

The means of Da‘wah to Allaah The Almighty and the means of enjoining good and forbidding evil vary. In principle, all these means are permissible unless they violate Sharee'ah. One of these means is the use of various electronic devices available such as the computer. It is certainly an important and useful means in doing Da‘wah to Allaah The Almighty.

The spread of Islamic websites on the Internet (Islamweb is one of these sites) is the best witness to importance of computers as a means for Da'wah. Perhaps the person who coined the term “Electronic Jihaad”  meant what we have already mentioned.

At the same time, this type of Jihaad is not sufficient as not everyone has access to it. Therefore, it is necessary to use various means in Da‘wah. Examples of these means are individual communication and delivering Da‘wah directly to people as was the practice of the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam.

Allaah Knows best.
