Do the Siddeeqoon Also Attain the Reward of Martyrs Killed in Battle? Fatwa No: 531835
- Fatwa Date:17-5-2026
Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatu,If the siddeeqoon are higher than the martyrs, does this mean the siddeeqoon also attain the reward of martyrs in battle? Or is it exclusive to the martyrs?
All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad () is His Slave and Messenger.
The rank of truthfulness (siddeeqiyyah) is the highest rank after Prophethood. Ibn al-Qayyim said in Miftah Dar Al-Saʿadah: “The levels of perfection are four: Prophethood, truthfulness (siddeeqiyyah), martyrdom, and sainthood. Allah, the Exalted, mentioned them in His statement (what means): {And whoever obeys Allah and the Messenger, then they will be with those upon whom Allah has bestowed His favor: the prophets, the truthful, the martyrs, and the righteous. And excellent are those as companions. That is the bounty from Allah, and sufficient is Allah as All-Knowing} [Quran 4:69-70] The highest of these ranks is Prophethood and Messengership, followed by truthfulness. The truthful are the leaders in following the Messengers, and their rank is the highest after Prophethood.” [End quote.]
As for one who dies in his bed, merely attaining the rank of truthfulness does not necessarily mean that he receives the reward of martyrdom in battle. However, whoever sincerely asks Allah for martyrdom will be granted the reward of the martyrs even if he dies in his bed.
It is reported in Sahih Muslim that the Prophet said: “Whoever sincerely asks for martyrdom will be granted it, even if he is not afflicted by it.”
And in another narration in Sahih Muslim He stated: “Whoever asks Allah for martyrdom sincerely, Allah will cause him to reach the ranks of the martyrs, even if he dies in his bed.”
If Allah honors a truthful person (siddeeq) with martyrdom as well, then it is hoped that Allah will grant him both rewards together.
Allah Knows best
