Assalamu alaykum.
I have a question regarding shaving one's head as a woman. I know it is either prohibited or disliked, but I keep thinking, why? I have no intention to look like a male or to chase an aesthetic. I simply want to shave it due to the spreading of dandruff and to rid myself of uneven hair growth.

All perfect praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.

It is worth noting: the karāhah (dislike) associated with a woman shaving her head is removed when there exists a legitimate sharʿī reason – a need (ḥājah) or necessity (ḍarūrah) for shaving it – such as skin conditions involving unbearable dandruff, sores, or the like. In such cases, if it is known through experience or the testimony of a qualified physician that the treatment for that dandruff or similar condition is by shaving, then there is no harm or blame in doing so.

Likewise is the case if she does so in order to regulate its growth and make it even, for she does not sin thereby — though it is preferable to refrain from shaving it for that reason alone.

On that note, shaving is makrūh (disliked) but not ḥarām (forbidden) — except if she does it with the intention of imitating men, or out of discontent and anger at a calamity, or similar [prohibited intentions].

Al-Ramlī states in Nihāyat Al-Muḥtāj: "Some [scholars] made an exception to this karāhah for a woman experiencing harm on her head that can only be resolved through shaving, such as when treating an eruption or a comparable ailment...." [End of quote]
