Crossing or joining hands after Ruku
Fatwa No: 82421

Question

Does any Madhab allow crossing or joining your hands after standing from Ruku?

Answer

Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.

Putting the right hand on the left hand after standing up from Ruku: When the praying person raises his head from Ruku, he could either put his right hand on his left one over his chest or let them both down his body. Imam Ahmad gave the person who is praying the choice between both states. Sheikh Abd Al Aziz Ibn Baz chose the opinion that states the putting of the right hand on the left one after standing up from Ruku. He believes that the Hadeeth of Qabd "Putting the right hand on the left one" is general and there is no difference between standing for the Fatiha or standing from the Ruku.
He was supported in this opinion by the permanent committee of scientific research and Fatwa in Saudi Arabia in its Fatwa number 2139.
But the majority of contemporary and ancient scholars is of the opposite opinion which states that one is not asked to put his right hand on his left one after standing up from Ruku.
This kind of issue should not be a basis for conflicts. In fact, the Muslim can do any of the two, as Imam Ahmad stated. The prayer in both states is correct; Insha Allah.
Allah knows best.
