The Unlimited Great Reward of the Patient
Fatwa No: 8601

Question

What is the outcome of keeping patient for trials and calamities?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

There is nothing a believer can do after keeping patient on trials and calamities except to receive the glad tidings of Allah’s reward, if he keeps patient with the intention of receiving the reward from Allah and thereby seeks the Countenance of Allah, the Almighty. Allah, the Almighty, says (what means):

·    {…but give good tidings to the patient.} [Quran 2:155]

·    {…Indeed, the patient will be given their reward without account.} [Quran 39:10]

Furthermore, the reward of patience is unlimited, and Allah’s recompense to His persevering servants is great. It was narrated on the authority of Abu Hurayrah that the Messenger of Allah, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said, “The believing man continues to suffer from trials with regard to his own selves, children and property till he meets Allah when he is guilty of no misdeed.” [At-Tirmithi with a good and authentic chain of narrators]

There are many reports to this effect.

We ask Allah to make us of His servants who are patient at the time of prosperity and adversity.

Allah knows best.
