Question

There is a (Qaseedah) ode composed by Sheikh 'Abd al-Qaadir al-Jilaani, the Sheikh of the Qaadiri Tareeqah. What is your opinion on this Qaseedah?

Answer

Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions. Sheikh Abdul Qadir al-Jilani is the founder of al-Qadiryah Sufi sect which is widespread across the Muslim world. Al-Jilani was a pious and good follower of the Salafi creed. Sheik-ul-Islam Ibn Taymiyah in many of his books, commended al-Jilani . Commenting on the virtues of patience Ibn Taymiyah said: Sheikh Abdul Qadir al-Jilani and other similar pious and steadfast Sheikhs in their speeches and sermons, generally urge the Muslims to comply with the following two basic norms: speedy performance of the tasks ordered by Shariah, abstinence from doing things that are prohibited and willingly and patiently accept any matter that is ordained by Allah . Regarding the poem referred to in the question, we cannot give our opinion on it, because you have not mentioned any parts of it. However, there is a general rule about poetry; if the wording and meaning are good, the poem is good, otherwise it is bad. If the contents of the poem are in conformity with the Islamic teachings, it is acceptable, otherwise it should be rejected, particularly if the contents are contrary to the authentic Islamic creed. Furthermore, it is not unusual that some statements and acts are falsely attributed to the prestigious pious people while they never did them. Allah knows best.
