A Christian wondering about his fate on the Last Day
Fatwa No: 88258

Question

I am a Christian, but I admire the Islamic faith and civilization. I also have a strong interest in the Islamic doctrines of the Last Day and the Hereafter. If Islam turns out to be the correct religion, what verdict will I receive on the Day of Judgment? Will I be admitted to heaven, since I believe in one God and perform good deeds? Or will I be sent to hell, since I do not follow the Islamic faith?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu 'alyhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

There is no doubt that Islam is the religion of absolute truth which was revealed to Prophet Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam.

This is proven by irrefutable evidence as well as glad tidings from previous revelations. The greatest evidence ever is the Quran. It contains information about previous generations and news about the situations of future generations.

This is related in a way that is beyond human capacity. It could not have been revealed by other than Allaah, the All-knower, the Oft-Forgiving and Most Merciful. How could the Prophet of Islam, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, who was illiterate, write such a Quran? Indeed Allaah challenged the Arabs, who were eloquent and masters in their language, to produce a verse or chapter like one of the Quran, and they were unable to do so. Allaah says (what means): {And if you (Arab pagans, Jews, and Christians) are in doubt concerning that which We have sent down (i.e. the Quran) to Our slave (Muhammad sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam), then produce a chapter of the like thereof and call your witnesses (supporters and helpers) besides Allaah, if you are truthful}. [Quran 2:23]

Allaah also says (what means): {Say "If mankind and the jinns were together to produce the like of this Quran, they could not produce the like thereof, even if they helped one another.} [Quran 17:88]

Allaah also says (what means): {Do they not then consider the Quran carefully? Had it been from other than Allaah, they would surely have found therein many a contradiction.} [Quran 4:82]

Indeed Quran is a miracle. It contains scientific facts and details that are still being discovered nowadays, another thing which proves its authenticity.

The Bible that was revealed to Jesus ('Eesaa ), contained glad tidings about the prophecy of Mohammad before this bible was forged and falsified.

However, some of these glad tidings still exist in the bibles of today. You can refer to the website of Ahmed Deedat for more information in this regard.

Therefore, as it is proven that Islam is the religion of the truth, Allaah says that He does not accept any other religion than Islam, as He says (what means): {And whoever seeks a religion other than Islam, it will never be accepted of him, and in the Hereafter he will be one of the losers} [Quran 3:85]

In addition to this, the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said that whoever did not believe in him (i.e., his prophethood) would be among the people of Hell, as he said: "I swear by whom in whose Hand the soul of Muhammad is, no-one from this nation, be he a Jew or Christian hears of me then dies without believing in what I was sent with except that he will be among the dwellers of Hell-fire." [Muslim]

Indeed Allaah abrogated other religions with the religion of Islam, and Prophet Mohammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, was the last of the prophets.

Dear questioner, based on the above, we would like to request that you take the initiative of embracing Islam in order to be happy in this world and in the Hereafter, and in order for you to be saved from the severe torment of Allaah.

We remind you as well about the glad tidings of the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, who informed us that whoever among the People of previous Books believed in him, and embraces Islam, will get a double reward, for believing in his prophet and in Prophet Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam.

To become a Muslim, you simply have to utter the two testimonies of faith and to abide by Islamic rules, like praying, fasting and so on.

We invite you to explore the good feeling that you have about Islam, and put into practice the knowledge of Islam and the admiration you have for it. Indeed Islam is the religion of truth.

You can contact the nearest Islamic centre in your area or any Islamic foundation that could help you learn matters concerning the religion. We ask Allaah to open your heart to Islam and to guide us all to the right path.
